Current major research projects:
- University of Oklahoma Community Networks Program (CNP): One of 25 CNPs across the nation funded by the National Cancer Institute to address cancer health disparities. The OUCNP is working collaboratively with the Cherokee Nation, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Conference of Black Mayors to raise awareness, increase utilization of effective interventions and screening services, and address treatment and survivorship issues.
- Project TITAN: Tobacco Industry Tactics Aimed at Native Americans. This NCI-funded study is examining strategies used by the tobacco companies to target and market commercial tobacco to Native American communities, so that more effective techniques for the prevention and control of tobacco abuse may be developed.
- Evaluation of TSET-Funded Programs: The University of Oklahoma College of Public Health serves as the external evaluator for tobacco control programs funded by the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust. These include comprehensive community-based programs, the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, specific population grants, and counter-marketing campaigns.
