Her research focus is minority health disparities and access to health care. She is interested in reducing minority health disparities through engagement- that is involving minority communities as active participants in research, creating and implementing relevant, culturally receptive health and health care access interventions. Of particular interest is the relationships between minority status, socioeconomic status and health status.

Professional Background/Affiliations:
Dr. Walston served as a hospital CEO for ten years prior to obtaining his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. He became a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives in 1993. He has also taught at Cornell University and Indiana University.

Current Research:
His research explores the organizational design, reengineering, change, and the resultant outcome of healthcare organizations.  He is currently working on funded research on the change of access and health outcomes resulting from admission policy changes at a safety net hospital and the impact of hospital CEO turnover on communities.
